چکیده

Jet noise reduction remains an important long-range goal in commercial and military aviation. Comparedwith their early counterparts, modern, ultrahigh-bypass-ratio turbofans on commercial aircraft are very quiet, but evermore stringent noise regulations dictate further reductions. In addition, hearing loss bypersonnel and community noise issues are prompting the military to seek noise reduction on future tactical aircraft. Further increase in bypass ratio not being a practical option, military applications in particular call for nuanced approaches to noise reduction including mixing devices like chevrons or even active noise control approaches using unsteady air injection. In this paper, we briefly review some recent developments in theoretical, experimental and computational approaches to understanding the sound radiated by largescale, coherent structures in jet turbulence that might guide these noise reduction efforts.

Use of Stochastic Turbulence Models in Jet Acoustics

There are many approaches to determine the sound propagated from turbulent flows.  In hybrid methods, the turbulent noise source field is computed or modeled separately from the far-field calculations.  To have an initial and quick estimation of the sound propagation, less computationally intensive methods can be developed using stochastic models of the turbulent fluctuations.   In this paper, ...

Experimental study and numerical simulation of three dimensional two phase impinging jet flow using anisotropic turbulence model

Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...

Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater

Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard  turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...

Aerodynamic Noise Computation of the Flow Field around NACA 0012 Airfoil Using Large Eddy Simulation and Acoustic Analogy

The current study presents the results of the aerodynamic noise prediction of the flow field around a NACA 0012 airfoil at a chord-based Reynolds number of 100,000 and at 8.4 degree angle of attack. An incompressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model is applied to obtain the instantaneous turbulent flow field. The noise prediction is performed by the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-...

CFD Analysis of Supersonic Coaxial Jets on Effect of Compressible Spreading Rates

Prevailing high-speed air-breathing propulsion systems invariably banks on coaxial jets which plays a vigorous role in stabilization of flames and combustion emission. Coaxial jets have applications in supersonic ejectors, noise control techniques and enhancement of mixing. Coaxial jet nozzles regulate spreading rates by developing virtuous mean flow and shortening primary flow potential core l...
